The Hamburg Christmas Tree and fish soup
The lights were lit on the 60th anniversary of the Hamburg Christmas tree on 29 November at a festive ceremony and to the accompaniment of merry music, courtesy of the Hafnarfjörður Brass Band. When the ceremony ended, guests were invited by Brim to enjoy fish soup at Landsbankinn in Reykjastræti. Yule lads and an accordion player entertained guests and played holiday tunes. The event was hosted by Landsbankinn, Faxaflóahafnir, Brim, Harpa, Hafnartorg, Sjómannadagsráðið and the German-Iceland Chamber of Commerce.
Icelandic Student Services and the University of Iceland Student Council
We have collaborated successfully with both Félagsstofnun stúdenta and the University of Iceland Student Council. Together, we have worked on various initiatives and hosted joint events, including the educational event “Fyrirtækið ég!” held at Háskólatorg.
UN Women
Landsbankinn was a supporter of UN Women in Iceland in the Women’s Year 2025. We backed the March Forward campaign that highlighted the set-back in equality in recent years and aimed to foster a dialogue and solidarity about equal rights.
Háskólasjóður Eimskipafélagsins fund
Eimskip University Fund was founded in 1964 in memory of all Icelandic emigrants to the US who participated in the establishment of Eimskipafélagið and, from its inception, the goal has been to support promising students at the University of Iceland. The Fund has been managed by Landsbankinn since 2005. That same year, it was agreed to allocate a portion of its assets to support research students at the University, primarily PhD candidates. Over 200 PhD candidates from all faculties have since received grants from the Fund which is the largest endowment fund at the University with assets in the amount of ISK 4 billion. Since regular allocations from the Fund began in 2006, total allocation amounts to ISK 1.9 billion, ISK 500 million thereof allocated to the construction of Háskólatorg in 2006 and 2007.
Cluster initiative in tourism
We have participated in a tourism cluster initiative since the project was launched in 2012. Key companies in the travel industry, public entities and companies in tourism support branches or collaborative sectors all join forces in the cluster. Its key goal is to boost competitiveness and value-creation in the travel sector.
The Iceland Ocean Cluster
The Bank partnered with the Iceland Ocean Cluster in 2024. The partnership aims to support increased value creation in the blue economy. The focus will be on supporting start-ups developing solutions to challenges faced by more established businesses, as well as fostering entrepreneurs who create value from what was previously discarded. Landsbankinn will contribute to the project as a sponsor, with the Bank’s Fisheries Team providing advisory services to entrepreneurs.
Örninn - exceptional company
As in previous years, Landsbankinn has made a donation to a good cause in the name of all Exceptional Companies recognised by Creditinfo. This year, the donation of ISK 4 million goes to Örninn. Memorial and relief fund Örninn offers weekend stays and company to children and teenagers who have lost a close loved one. Everyone involved with the project donates their work, including priests, deacons, theologians, student social workers, psychologists, cooks, hairdressers, dentists, physical therapists and artists.
Almannarómur
Landsbankinn participates in and is a torchbearer for the initiative Þín íslenska er málið organised by Almannarómur, the Icelandic Centre for Language Technology. The aim of the project is to gather data and sources about the Icelandic use of companies from various sectors. We want to do our part to boost the digital presence of Icelandic and enable it to continue to flourish in the future. The data we contribute to Almannarómur’s language technology programme and centralised initiative for the digital development of Icelandic, is an important source of knowledge about the use of financial terms in the past and also reflects the linguistic development that has and is occurring with changes in fintech, general digitalisation of financial services and use of new solutions such as AI.
