Trusted partner in varied initiatives

We encourage development and progress in society and strive to throw our weight behind different projects and associations around the country. The Bank’s aim is to have a positive impact on society, both with direct funding and active participation.

Funds and grants

The purpose of the Bank’s funds is to support projects that we consider likely to enrich Icelandic society for the future and boost diversity and innovation, both in culture and business.

Community Fund

Landsbankinn's community grants are intended to benefit humanitarian and charitable pursuits; education, science and research; preventative measures and youth activities; environmental issues, nature conservation and sustainability; and culture and arts projects. Since 2011, almost 500 projects have received grants in the total amount of over ISK 245 million from Landsbankinn’s Community Fund. In 2025, grants were allocated in the total amount of ISK 20 million to 32 projects. The projects are varied and benefit people of all ages and throughout Iceland.

Scholarships

Landsbankinn awarded sixteen talented students with scholarships from its Community Fund in May. This was the 36th allocation of scholarships and the total amount awarded this year was ISK 8 million. Over 450 applications were received. The panel of judges sought to select ambitious, exceptional students with an interesting future vision who are likely, in the opinion of the panel, to enrich Icelandic society in the long term.

Hvatasjóður - Reykjavík University and Landsbankinn fund

The fund was established in 2023 and allocated grants for the second time in 2025. The objective is to level the playing field for access to Reykjavík University (RU) for students whose native language is not Icelandic and offer them easier access to RU’s undergraduate courses. Establishment of the fund was based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and especially goal no. 4, “quality education for everyone”. Recipients of the grants are exempt from tuition fees at RU the first year and Landsbankinn foots the bill.

Culture and the arts

We greatly enjoy the dynamism and creativity of the Icelandic cultural scene. Providing support for a wide array of events, festivals and musicians allows the Bank to combine its efforts to have a positive impact and its endeavour to actively promote art and culture in Iceland.

Hönnunarmars 2025

DesignMarch

The house was packed at Landsbankinn’s DesignMarch event and excitement levels were high. The event began with a discussion about investing in design, and in the evening, young fashion designers took over the stage with The Source - Young Talents of Fashion. Landsbankinn has been a key supporter of DesignMarch since 2023 and an active participant. Thie year, we created promotional videos of seven designers that were featured on the Bank’s Youtube channel.

Ten entries received grants from the Pride Parade Fund of Reykjavík Pride and Landsbankinn which provides financial support to individuals and smaller groups who participate in the Pride Parade. To mark Reykjavík Pride even further, we covered the Senior League, a group of queer people over 60 who remind us that the rainbow doesn’t fade with the years and that the campaign for LGBTQIA+ is not over.

Its purpose is to enable as many people as possible to enjoy the Bank’s art collection. The gallery website was developed by Sara Karen Thórisdóttir, a Web Editor at Landsbankinn, as part of her masters course in Applied Studies in Culture and Communication at the University of Iceland. To mark the Women’s Year 2025, a new section was added to the website, celebrating art by women. Landsbankinn’s collection holds numerous pieces classified as national treasures, many of which are by women.

Landsbankinn’s calendar

For many, the new year does not truly begin until the Landsbankinn calendar has taken pride of place on the desk or kitchen shelf. It has been published since 1969 and is therefore celebrating its 57th year of publication this year. Over time, it has undergone several changes, evolving from a plastic stand to a spiral-bound, paper format. In recent years, the calendar has been sent to customers aged 67 and older, while other interested parties, both individuals and companies, can obtain a copy at branches at the beginning of the year. The 2025 calendar was dedicated to water and its varied role in all of our lives. Watercolours by Stefán “Mottan” Óli Baldursson decorated the calendar and the pieces were exhibited and sold at Reykjastræti.

The data we contribute to Almannarómur’s language technology programme and centralised initiative for the digital development of Icelandic, is an important source of knowledge about the use of financial terms in the past and also reflects the linguistic development that has and is occurring with changes in fintech, general digitalisation of financial services and use of new solutions such as AI.

Analysis and publication

Landsbankinn Economic Research worked on numerous analytical pieces in 2025 and published both to internal customers in the Bank and publicly on its website. Its experts were highly visible in media, popular respondents in interviews on economic forecasts, inflation, interest and the real estate market.

Strong economic analysis and publication

Hagsjá is an e-zine comprised of short articles published 1-3 times per week. The Hagsjá is published to Landsbankinn’s website, to a mail list with an extensive readership and is often the focus of media coverage. The articles discuss the economy, State finances, the real estate market, inflation outlook, tourism and more, analyse newly published statistics and contain forecasts. In Vikubyrjun, a short e-zine published every Monday, Economic Research reviews the past week and discusses the coming week on markets, publication of statistics, financial statements and more. The department’s monthly newsletter is an in-depth review of the economy and the outlook and is published in both Icelandic and English. In the past year, the Bank’s economists have also published informative articles on the Bank's website and op-eds for public media.

Economic forecast and meetings

The largest single event on Economic Research's calendar in 2025 was the publication and presentation of its macroeconomic forecast for 2025-2028. A luncheon meeting was held at Harpa on the state of the global economy and its impact on Iceland. Following a brief presentation of the economic forecast, Giada Giani, economist with Citi and a specialist in the eurozone, neighbouring countries and the Nordics, delivered a talk on the current situation and outlook in the markets. The event closed with a panel where the CEOs of three export companies discussed challenges and opportunities in their sector.

Active in public debate

We continued to be active and visible in public debate. We contribute to the debate on economic affairs, finance and other current affairs.

Action against cybercrime

We have actively shared information and educated the public about cybersecurity for several years. Throughout the year, we wrote educational articles for our own platforms, and the bank's experts participated in interviews and were active in public discussions. We hosted several educational sessions on cybersecurity both in Reykjavík and throughout the country. A Bank expert also gave a presentation at a conference organised by the Icelandic Council on Aging and visited community centres and assisted living facilities for the elderly. We continued to operate a strong fraud hotline which is open daily from 9:00 to 23:00. Through this service, Bank employees assist customers in responding to various fraud attempts. For the first time this year, we presented a gamified version of education about cyberfraud where people were challenged to tell the difference between fraud and the real deal. This was a success and the game was played over 25,500 times in one month.

Access to banking service

Landsbankinn’s app is available in three languages: Icelandic, English and Polish. We continue to offer varied other content in English and Polish with the aim of contributing to equal access to financial services and education. Special emphasis has been placed on sending urgent notifications, such as concerning fraud attempts, simultaneously in all three languages. By offering accessible material in several languages, we also promote inclusion, embrace diversity and increase awareness about financial matters.
